In recent years there seems to have been an explosion on the body building scene, but it isn’t just among professional body builders.  Every where you look there are strong physically fit men and women, and granted at least a third of the population of the United States is very over weight there are plenty of people who are just the opposite.  Part of that is from more effective workouts, improved supplements, and let’s face it pharmaceutical enhancements that despite being illegal are all too common.  This article isn’t about steroid abuse or how you should vary up your workout; it’s about how all that power you have won’t necessarily make every fight a slam dunk.  Hey, size and strength are always important factors, but they don’t have to be the deciding ones, if you know what you’re doing.

You bench more than anyone else in your gym, you use only the heaviest dump bells they’ve got, and when you’re at work and something heavy needs to be move they call you to help out.  You find time every day to workout and you expect results not excuses, and you should be proud of all the hard work you’ve put in to build up your body.  Thing is no matter how strong you are you’re still vulnerable to all the same attacks that everyone else is, and you might hit harder, but that is only if your attacker gets a chance to strike.  Do you have the drive to keep fighting when a fight isn’t going your way?  Do you have the training necessary to deal with multiple attackers who could be armed?  Do you have any training beyond basic boxing?  If you’re having trouble answering any of these questions you still need some good self defense training.

You can hit hard, but with a little training you can hit even harder, and you’ll learn how to get out of a dangerous grappling situation where a knife or a rock could end you while you’re busy wrestling around.  Training can make the average man dangerous and ready to deal with anything, but if you’ve already got power you can use it even more efficiently.  Because of your size and strength others will see you as a target and look to fight you, but if you have technique as well as strength you will have even more of an advantage.  Maybe you think that you can handle yourself pretty well and since you’re stronger than most people you have nothing to worry about, but why take any chances.  There will always be someone stronger, and people don’t fight fair, so you need every advantage you can get.  You’ve got the disciple and the desire already, so why not add something else to your workouts that will make all the difference in a real fight.
