Don’t follow the Global Trend: Keep Your Guns

Growing up I met a number of different martial artists who practiced a variety of disciplines, but I was always surprised to find out they’re also proud firearms owners.  After all these were the people who destroyed bricks with their bare hands and disarmed knife wielding attackers, but as you grow older you learn about the realities of life.  In a close combat situation your enemy won’t always be in striking distance, so there are times when you need a gun, but some people don’t see things that way and unfortunately they happen to be in power right now.

Recently a private contractor friend of mine emailed me a piece of legislation quietly making the rounds in governments and at the United Nations.  The “Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty,” threatens to end private ownership of firearms around the globe, and shockingly it has the support of the Obama white house.

Self Defense Company clients in the United Kingdom already know how unreasonable Britain’s gun control laws are, and also how ineffective they are in preventing crime.  Still though Britain is leading the charge in the United Nations along with seven other nations to restrict the import and export of guns, and replace the laws sovereign nations already have in place.

Australia which already has very strict gun control saw a marked increase in crimes like assault and burglary after many laws were put in place during the 1990’s, and while homicides did decline experts say the rate had been declining for years prior to the new laws.  Keep in mind only about 5% of Australians own firearms legally, and if you do own a gun you have to deal with restrictions that make a firearm impractical for self defense.  This is one of the reasons our clients practice with the Self Defense Training System™ so they can kick the crap out of an attacker until they’re able to get their weapon (but they prefer beating the snot out of them because it’s much more awesome).

The treaty’s supporters who include Secretary of State Hilary Clinton who claims the law is only meant to prevent firearms from falling into the hands of terrorists and other criminals, but as with any other form of gun control it will only hurt law biding people around the world.  NOTE to Senator Clinton “Terrorists don’t give a shit about laws…they’re TERRORISTS”.  The United States would be restricted in the arms it sells to allies, and irresponsible nations (READ OUR ENEMIES) will be allowed to sell arms to anyone as along as they say they meet the UN criteria. For example countries in the Middle East could work to block U.S. weapons sales to Israel while they can procure all the weapons they want from other sources like Russia, China and North Korea

Of course the rank and file of anti-gun groups around the world support the treaty in true knee jerk fashion, and many in the U.S simply see the United States Constitution as a “problem” to be over come to make the world a safer place. Millionaire Rabble-rouser George Soros has already donated vast sums of money to the cause, and even American taxes payers money funneled to UN is being used to help deprive Americans of their rights to own firearms.  While the treaty might be designed to restrict ownership, many treaty supporters want a total ban on privately owned guns. So you’ll be left at the mercy of criminals and the government (both one in the same in some cases).

Attorney and former head of Amnesty International in the United States Mark Benenson who’s the cousin of the organization’s founder says of the treaty, “I think it will be a safer world for tyrannical governments and a safer world for criminals who don’t give up their firearms.  It certainly won’t be a safer world for ordinary people.”  If you think it can’t happen in your country you’re wrong, Canada is already putting in place UN gun control programs as well as other nations.  Also keep in mind that once an international treaty is put in place it is almost impossible to change.

When I first read about this I probably reacted like many of you do and simply thought that there was nothing to this treaty, and that the gun rights people were being paranoid, but the more research I did the more scared I became.  This treaty is a serious threat to free citizens everywhere, and though it might look like an effort keep guns out of the hands of terrorists it will only take away your rights and circumvent your own government.

What needs to happen is for the member nations that are selling arms to terrorists to stop their activities, and you need to become politically active and let politicians know that you don’t want them voting for this treaty, and that the U.S. needs to keep voting NO when it comes up in the UN.  Don’t wait for the blue berets to come to your house to take your guns so you’re compliant with international law.

As the saying goes, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Law abiding citizens don’t commit crimes with firearms. Criminals an terrorist don’t give a damn (do you think the guy who is willing to rob you at gun point or fly a plane into a building seriously gives a shit whether he can legally own a firearm? More effort needs to be placed on training and education and NOT on restriction). By simply enforcing the laws that are already in place and making firearms training more accessible will prevent a lot of crime before it happens.
