Okay when it comes to a real life fight, one where you could lose you life or at the very least get badly hurt the first thing you’ve got to get out of your head is any sense of honor.  Now we all try to follow the rules of society, and we’re not talking about a boxing match or mixed martial arts competition where there are rules, we’re talking about a real fight.  Even the days of old knights and samurai weren’t beyond fighting dirty to win, so don’t believe the romantic version of events.  If an assailant comes after you it is on, and if you want to win you’d better do it by any means necessary.  Does it sound unfair, sure, but when life and death is on the line don’t take any chances.

Let’s look at this in a historical prospective, and you can decide if there ever has been a fair fight.  The American west was a place for danger and adventure where heroes and villains met at high noon on the main street and battled it out.  Well, not really sure some fights happen like that, but the vast majority were like any firefight, and if a cowboy saw someone he wanted dead he’s shoot him before he had a chance to fight back and that could be in a saloon or where ever.  While the samurai did have a lot of honor and ritual in their duals, but there are a large number of techniques designed for a fighter to deal with a surprise attack, so it is safe to say not everyone was playing by the rules.  If someone tries to ambush you it is pretty safe to say they don’t want a fair fight, so don’t give them one.

An assailant is looking for every advantage possible; they’ve chosen the location, the time, and probably the weapon.  Things aren’t very fair from the start, but you have an advantage they don’t know about, you’re trained to deal just with this type of situation.  With the Self Defense training system you have a skill set that will work anywhere regardless of what you have to deal with.  We teach a variety of techniques to fight off muggers, and if someone starts a fight with you in a crowd bar or club you will know just what to even if you don’t have much room to maneuver.  If you have to deal with some very dangerous people armed with pipes, bats, and even guns you’ll learn how to turn the tables on them.   This knowledge might give you an unfair advantage, but that is what you need to win today.  Chivalry is great in principal and you should always strive to behave honorably, but there are times when the rules go out the window, and one of those times is when your life is on the line.
