Extreme Martial Arts or XMA is simply movie fighting. The high flying kicks and acrobatics are nice, hard to do, but have no application to real self defense.
Besides being able to perform these techniques when you're old or injured, try doing them in an icy parking lot a 3 in the morning.
Imagine trying to thwart off a hijacker with a double back flip to a cartwheel kick?
The extreme martial art revolution (XMA) is a reaction of strip mall karate who doesn't want to do mixed martial arts. If gives their students and outlet to perform and have fun doing it.
The participants look like they're having a good time, and that's great. I feel all martial arts bring something to the table. I am sure there are a lot of kids that benefit from pursuing this type of training. But that's about it.
I urge parents who let their children practice extreme martial arts to do so with a little caution. They must understand that it is NOT real fighting and just because they can d a double flying crescent kick, doesn't mean they can protect themselves.
